Mathieu Aupitre, also known as “Mateo,” is a dynamic French saxophonist, vocalist, and arranger renowned for his artistry with the globally acclaimed Playing For Change Band. Born in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, France, Mathieu’s musical journey began in his father’s choir, where he first discovered his voice before mastering the saxophone. Trained rigorously in jazz and modern music across multiple conservatories, his versatility blossomed upon moving to Barcelona, where he quickly became a central figure in the Afro-Cuban jazz, Brazilian, Soul-Funk, and World music scenes.

Since joining Playing For Change in 2014, Mathieu has toured the globe, gracing iconic stages like Tokyo’s Billboard Live, New York City’s Highline Ballroom, and Los Angeles’s Mayan Theater. His festival highlights include the Blues Fest in Australia and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, where he has performed alongside legends like The Doobie Brothers, Ellis Hall, Jack Johnson, and John Densmore. With appearances on major TV shows such as Altas Horas and Domingão do Faustão, Mathieu’s energy, style, and musical depth continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
