Mary McCabe

Mary McCabe, a soprano from Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, has been associated with Northern Ireland Opera from its inception. Starting as a Young Artist and later becoming an Associate Artist, Mary has showcased her talent in various productions.
She portrayed “Mademoiselle Silberklang” in their production of “The Impresario” at The Walled City Festival and performed as “First Maiden” in Puccini’s “Turandot” at the Grand Opera House. She also took on the role of “Belinda” in a concert performance of Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas.” Mary recently appeared in the award-winning short film “Old Friends and Other Days” directed by Cameron Menzies for NI Opera and participated in a live recorded concert, “Live at the Waterfront,” aired on Sky Arts.
Mary’s educational background includes a First Class degree in Music and French from The Queen’s University of Belfast, followed by a Distinction in her Masters degree from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. During her time in Scotland, she achieved First Prize in the Norma Grieg French Song Competition. Notably, Mary won the New York International Opera Project Competition and received first place for her rendition of Bellini in the Italian Concorso Internazionale Lions Canto Lirico.
Throughout her career, Mary has received generous support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland through grants and awards. As an award-winning performer in opera, oratorio, and recitals, she has garnered critical acclaim both nationally and internationally.
